Newport Mental Health has been officially licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families to provide Mobile Response and Stabilization Services, expanding access to community-based behavioral health crisis care for children, youth, and families statewide.
MRSS provides 24/7 in-person crisis support, with trained clinicians responding wherever a crisis occurs — at home, at school, or in the community — to assess the situation, stabilize the child or family, and connect them to ongoing care. The goal is to help children remain safely at home and avoid unnecessary emergency department visits or hospitalization.
Rhode Island licenses three MRSS providers statewide; Tides Family Services and Family Service of Rhode Island are the other two.

Newport Mental Health’s MRSS clinicians completed specialized training through the University of Connecticut’s Innovations Institute, a nationally recognized program in community-based crisis response for children and families.
