Amy Yozura, a longtime Newport resident, has announced that she is running for the Newport School Committee, pledging to ensure the city’s public schools have the funding they need.

A graduate of Marist University, Yozura holds a degree in communications and business marketing and has worked in both education and private aviation throughout her career. She also has experience in policy advocacy in Newport and at the statewide level, which she said will serve her well in her bid for a seat on the committee.

“I am excited to be running for School Committee and look forward to working with other education minded residents to ensure the children, families and teachers of Newport are supported, to create a brighter future for our city,” Yozura said.

Her campaign will focus on public education funding, student mental health and equitable access to quality education, issues she believes are critical to the future of Newport.
