Carole Ann (Manley) Maloney, beloved wife, mother, cherished friend and guiding light to so many, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the age of 68 following a courageous 14-year battle with melanoma.
Born on November 14, 1957 in Newport, RI, Carole had a truly magnetic personality that drew people to her effortlessly. She was known for her quick wit and her ability to find humor in almost any situation, often delivering it with perfect timing and a twinkle of mischief. Her presence was lively and engaging, and she had a way of making ordinary moments feel lighter and more memorable. Being around her meant laughter was never far away, and those who knew her will remember not just what she said, but the warmth and joy she brought into every room.
Carole spent 30 years as a contracts administrator in the defense contracting industry, most recently with General Dynamics Information Technology, where colleagues became lifelong friends. She balanced her career with an equally full and meaningful life at home and in her community, serving as an extremely involved mother, devoted volunteer, and deeply present friend and family member.
One of Carole’s greatest gifts was her ability to build and nurture deep relationships. She treasured her many decades-long friendships and continually welcomed new ones into her circle. She had a remarkable way of making people feel valued, loved, and like family. The friendships she cultivated over the years were among her greatest joys and stand as a testament to the kind, generous, and compassionate person she was.
That Carole passed away on the day of her mother’s funeral feels, in some quiet way, fitting for someone whose life was so centered on family. The bonds she shared with those she loved were among the defining joys of her life. While the timing deepens our sorrow, it also serves as a reminder of the strength of those connections and the lasting legacy of love that she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her mother Jane Gray, sister Gail Hugo, and brothers Steven Manley, Jim Manley, and Raymond Manley.
Carole is survived by her husband of 48 years, Stephen E. Maloney; son Ryan Maloney (Liisa) of Middletown, RI; daughter Merrill Allen (Alexander) of Portsmouth, RI; four treasured grandchildren Anna and Benjamin Maloney and Amelia and Emerson Allen; sister Kathy Gleyo (Manny) of Imperial Beach, CA; brother Robert Manley (Heather) of Oceanside, CA; and many extended family members and countless friends who will cherish her memory forever.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice for the extraordinary care, compassion, and support they provided during the final chapter of Carole’s life.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate and remember Carole during visiting hours on Sunday, June 28 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St, Newport, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, at St. Joseph’s Church, corner of Broadway & Mann Ave, Newport, and a reception will follow at the Wyndham Newport Hotel, 240 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown.
