An Evening by the Shore: Beach Bash Returns to Third Beach This July (Norman Bird Sanctuary) Credit: Sarah Petrarca

The Norman Bird Sanctuary will turn its Third Beach property into a relaxed coastal evening of live music, beach games and s’mores this summer as its popular Beach Bash returns Wednesday, July 29.

The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and invites guests to bring picnic dinners, settle in along the shoreline and enjoy swimming, seine fishing, classic beach games and s’mores fires as the sun sets over the water.

Musician John Monllos will perform through the evening, with local food rounding out the night, including appetizers from J.T. Commons and fresh seafood from The Shuckologist. Each ticket includes soft drinks, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, s’mores and one drink ticket good for beer or wine. Ragged Island Brewing Co. is providing the beer, and Allen’s Wine and Spirits the wine.

“Beach Bash is one of those evenings that captures what makes summer here so special,” said Joanne Rodino, the sanctuary’s development associate. “It’s relaxed and joyful but also reflects something deeper — how much people value this land and the work that goes into protecting it.”

The event is one of the sanctuary’s largest annual fundraisers, directly supporting year-round conservation work, environmental education programs, habitat restoration and public access to more than 300 acres of protected land.

Tickets are $60 for member adults, $75 for non-member adults and $25 for children ages 4 to 17. Children 3 and under are free. More information and tickets are available at www.NormanBirdSanctuary.org. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to Friday, July 31.

Located on 300 acres in Middletown, the Norman Bird Sanctuary is a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary and environmental education center that has worked to protect local habitats and connect the community with the natural world since 1949.
