The city of Newport is counting down to its annual Fourth of July fireworks display and is again asking residents and businesses to help fund the celebration over the harbor.
Weather permitting, this year’s display is scheduled to light up the harbor beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, with a rain date the following day. With the holiday falling on a Saturday, the city expects Newport to be especially busy and is encouraging the community to get involved by donating to the city’s Fireworks Fund.
As in previous years, Premier Sponsorships are offered for donations of $5,000 (Red), $2,500 (White) and $1,500 (Blue), though donations of any amount are appreciated. All donors will be recognized by the city both online and in print.
The city thanked the sponsors who have already contributed this year, including Kirby Perkins Construction, Marriott International, Newport Yachting Center, The Preservation Society, Café Zelda, the Kempenaar and Karam families, Teri Degnan Real Estate & Consulting, Fastnet, Behan Bros., Discover Newport & Bristol County CVB, Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard, Season’s Corner Market, Gardiner House and Hammetts Wharf.
Originally organized by a small group of volunteers, Newport’s annual fireworks display has long been a community effort. Since 2006, when the city administration first began putting on the display, community support has remained a key ingredient in funding the cost and ensuring an experience for the residents and visitors who line the harbor from Goat Island to King Park.
