The Tiverton Police Department has launched a new community crime mapping page on its website, providing residents with an interactive tool to view recent police activity and general crime trends.
The department announced the launch Wednesday on its Facebook page, describing the initiative as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, public engagement and awareness of community safety conditions.
The interactive tool displays reported incidents based on call-for-service and case data from the department’s Records Management System. Information is updated regularly and is intended to promote awareness and engagement, according to the department’s website.
Locations are generalized to the nearest block or intersection to protect victim and juvenile privacy. Offense classifications are preliminary and may change as investigations progress.
Certain incidents — including those involving juveniles, sexual assaults or active investigations — are automatically excluded under state law and departmental policy. Data shown may differ slightly from official state or federal crime statistics due to reporting timeframes and classification standards, according to the department.
The department reminds residents to dial 911 if they witness suspicious activity or need immediate police assistance. For non-emergency reports or questions about the crime map, residents can contact the Tiverton Police Department Communications Center at (401) 625-6717.
The crime mapping tool is available at tivertonpoliceri.com/crime-mapping-community-awareness.
