2025 Sakonnet Bike and Stroll

The Island Park Preservation Society and Bike Newport will host the third annual Sakonnet Coastal Bike and Stroll on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The free family event will close a portion of the scenic Island Park and Hummocks coastline to motor vehicle traffic, allowing participants to walk, bike, run, roll or stroll the route. Leashed pets are welcome.

Route details

Participants can hop on or off anywhere along the route, which runs from Park Avenue (east of Mason Avenue) to Point Road, Hummock Point Road and Hummocks Avenue through the Anthony Road railroad overpass. The route connects directly to the bike lane across the Sakonnet River Bridge.

Roads will be closed to cars from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants must exit the route before noon when motor vehicle traffic resumes.

Registration and parking

All participants must complete a waiver before joining the route. The waiver is available online through the event organizers.

Parking is available on Boyd’s Lane and Anthony Road.

While helmets are not required, organizers strongly encourage all riders to wear them.

Volunteers needed

Organizers are seeking volunteers to help with the event. Those interested can contact John Vit at 401-952-1953 or johnvit53@gmail.com.

The event is sponsored by Bank Newport and supported by Island Park residents and businesses.
