The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority will close the right eastbound lane of the Newport Pell Bridge on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 24, through Friday, Sept. 4.
Work continues on two other bridges in the meantime.
On the Mount Hope Bridge, the ongoing dehumidification project means alternating lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. Separately, surface repairs are scheduled overnight Sunday, Aug. 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., also with alternating lane closures.
On the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge, crews have finished replacing joints in the westbound lanes and are now working in the eastbound lanes. That work runs overnight, Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. RITBA recommends 25 mph through the work zone. During the day, work areas are covered with traffic plates, and drivers should expect the same bumps that were present westbound, along with delays approaching the bridge.
All work is weather-dependent and schedules can change.
