Newport String Project announces the opening weekend of its Newport County Concert Series (via Newport String Project)

The Newport String Project will present the opening weekend of its Newport County Concert Series on Oct. 25-26 with performances in Middletown and Jamestown.

The Newport String Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at St. Columba’s Church in Middletown and at 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown.

The program will feature works by contemporary American composers Caroline Shaw and Bryce Dessner, along with Beethoven’s “String Quartet in F Major, ‘Razumovsky,’ op. 59 no. 1.”

The quartet includes violinists Ealaín McMullin and Kenneth Trotter, violist Florrie Marshall and cellist Chelsea Bernstein.

The program includes selections from Shaw’s “Plan and Elevation” and Dessner’s “Le Bois,” according to organizers.

McMullin serves as artistic director of the Newport String Project.
