🚨 You need to know

Newport runners can now lace up their winter gear for a brand-new racing experience as registration opens today for the inaugural Newport Winter 10K presented by Fitzpatrick Team REMAX Results. Scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, this scenic winter race will start and finish at Brenton Point State Park, taking participants clockwise around Newport’s iconic Ocean Drive for a fresh perspective on one of New England’s most beloved coastal routes.

The 6.2-mile course offers runners a unique opportunity to experience Ocean Drive in reverse during the winter months, featuring mostly flat terrain along the coast with some rolling hills between miles three and five. Participants will enjoy expansive ocean views and rugged coastline scenery while navigating what organizers describe as “a familiar route, reimagined.” One water station will be positioned just before the three-mile mark to support runners along the way.

Beyond the athletic challenge, the Newport Winter 10K carries a meaningful charitable mission. A portion of all race proceeds will support the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, furthering their work throughout Newport County. All participants will receive a finisher’s medal and a custom race-branded winter beanie, with designs to be revealed soon.

Early registration incentives are already in place, with runners who sign up by Sunday, September 21, receiving an additional 15% discount on entry fees. The pricing structure includes early bird registration at $46 through October 31, followed by winter pricing at $52 from November 1 through December 4, and race day registration at $60. Packet pickup will begin at 8:30 AM on race morning at Brenton Point State Park, with the race starting promptly at 10:00 AM.

This inaugural event promises to become a winter tradition for Newport’s running community, offering both seasoned athletes and casual runners a chance to experience the Ocean State’s stunning coastline during a season when fewer visitors crowd the famous drive.
