Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty has announced the sale of “The Playhouse,” a historic property on Ocean Drive, for $10,442,000.
The sale marks the fourth-highest residential sale in Newport this year, according to data from the Rhode Island Multiple Listing Service.
David Huberman and Mike Sweeney of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty represented the sellers, while Hogan Associates represented the buyers. The property went under contract in less than a month.
Originally designed by architect Irving Gill as a carriage house and boathouse for the adjacent estate “Wildacre,” “The Playhouse” was rebuilt and is set on Prices Neck Cove on Ocean Avenue. The property retains its historic character while featuring modern amenities, including geothermal heating and cooling, a saltwater pool and spa, and a gourmet kitchen. A freestanding garage with a two-bedroom guest house is also included.
“‘The Playhouse’ is a testament to Newport’s rich architectural heritage and enduring appeal,” said Paul Leys, co-owner of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty. “Aquidneck Island, and especially Newport itself, continues to draw the luxury real estate clientele. This sale marks the 14th property in Newport to sell over $10 million since January of 2020.”
Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty is celebrating 100 years in business and became one of Sotheby’s International Realty’s first affiliates in 1976.
