NEWPORT — The Women’s Resource Center raised $65,000 at its annual Seaside Sips fundraiser last week, bringing together more than 100 guests at The Bohlin for an evening supporting domestic violence survivors and prevention efforts.

The dockside event featured testimonials from survivors posted throughout the venue, highlighting the center’s impact on those it serves. One testimonial read, “The housing advocacy was truly life-saving,” while another shared, “Services like this don’t just offer help—they offer hope, and they make long-term healing possible.”

Nearly 1 in 2 Rhode Islanders experience domestic violence in their lifetime, according to the center. The organization serves 1,200 people annually through its comprehensive programs.

“We are committed to being as courageous and resilient as the survivors we serve because all survivors deserve safety and justice, and we will not waver in that commitment,” said Jessica Walsh, the center’s executive director, acknowledging current funding challenges.

Guests enjoyed food, drinks and music while learning about the organization’s mission and services. The evening included a challenge match gift that inspired additional donations from attendees.

“The WRC helps its clients overcome the impacts of domestic violence,” said Susan Sipprelle, event co-chairperson. “We can all get behind this local organization doing such good and necessary work.”

The center thanked guests, volunteers and sponsors, including Centreville Bank and the Bristol Rotary Club.

“We are deeply grateful for the generosity of this community,” said Heather Jensen, president of the Women’s Resource Center’s Board of Directors. “In times of uncertainty, we derive strength from the knowledge that our community stands with us.”

The Women’s Resource Center has provided free, confidential services to survivors and families affected by domestic violence in Newport and Bristol counties since 1977. Programs include a 24-hour hotline, court and law enforcement advocacy, emergency shelter and transitional housing, mental health counseling, support groups, and prevention outreach.

Those in unsafe relationships can call the center’s hotline at 401-846-5263. More information and donations are available at wrcnbc.org.
