The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced Thursday it will waive late fees on toll invoices issued between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 1, 2025, if customers pay by the September deadline.

The extended grace period comes as the authority continues to experience long wait times for customer service, both by phone and at its walk-in center in Jamestown.

“Our wait times have improved but are still long,” said Lori Caron Silveira, RITBA’s executive director. “To help alleviate this situation, we will extend the grace period for resolving any tolling issues for all invoices issued between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 1, 2025.”

Instead of calling or visiting the Jamestown facility, RITBA is asking customers with toll invoice issues to email ezpass@ritba.org. The emails should include the customer’s first and last name, address, phone number, invoice number, license plate number and E-ZPass account information if applicable.

The authority said the documentation will allow staff to review account information for tolls incurred during the specified time period.

RITBA operates the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge, where Rhode Island residents with a state-issued E-ZPass pay 83 cents compared to $6 for drivers without transponders and $4 for those with out-of-state E-ZPass devices.

The authority’s customer service can be reached at (877) 743-9727 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at its walk-in center at 1 East Shore Road in Jamestown from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
