Newport School Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain will sit down with What’sUpNewp tomorrow afternoon for her regular monthly conversation with the community, offering parents, students, and residents a direct line to district leadership just one week before the new school year begins.

The live virtual discussion, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 1:30 p.m., provides a platform for community members to get answers about Newport Public Schools’ operations, policies, and initiatives. The 30-minute session will be hosted by What’sUpNewp’s Ryan Belmore and Frank Prosnitz, along with community input.

“This monthly forum has become an important touchpoint between our school leadership and the families we serve,” said Belmore. “It’s an opportunity for transparency and direct dialogue about what’s happening in our schools.”

Community members can submit questions in advance through a Google form available at whatsupnewp.com/ask-the-superintendent/, or pose questions in real-time through comments on the live broadcast. The discussion typically covers a range of topics from curriculum updates and facility improvements to budget matters and student achievement initiatives.

The timing of tomorrow’s session is particularly significant, coming just one week before Newport Public Schools grades 1-12 begin classes on Wednesday, Sept. 3. This makes it an ideal opportunity for families to get last-minute answers about back-to-school preparations, any policy changes, or district priorities for the upcoming academic year.

The broadcast will stream simultaneously across multiple platforms, including What’sUpNewp’s website, Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube channels. Those unable to watch live can access the full conversation afterward on any of these platforms.

The “Ask The Superintendent” series typically airs on the fourth Wednesday of each month, though scheduling may vary based on availability.

For those planning to tune in, the conversation begins at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow and runs for approximately 30 minutes. Questions can be submitted through the advance form or posted during the live broadcast across What’sUpNewp’s social media channels.

The live stream begins Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 1:30 p.m. on whatsupnewp.com and all What’sUpNewp social media channels.
