A Newport musician is bringing his Brooklyn-based band home for a free waterfront concert next week.
Chase Ceglie, a multi-instrumentalist who lives in Newport, will perform with his band, Pets, at the King Park Gazebo on Friday, Aug. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. The concert is part of the Friends of the Waterfront outdoor concert series.
Pets, formed in Brooklyn in 2021, features Ceglie alongside brothers Jonny and Nick Campolo. The trio blends what organizers describe as “lush songwriting with adventurous electronic textures” to create music that is “both intimate and cinematic.”
Ceglie, who serves as the band’s saxophonist, songwriter and producer, has become a fixture in both Rhode Island and New York music scenes, according to the New England Music Organization, which is co-presenting the concert.
The band’s debut album, “(Spiral Question Mark),” combines classical training with modern production techniques, incorporating piano, guitar, woodwinds and modular electronics. Their sound draws inspiration from artists including Neil Young, Carole King, Leonard Cohen and Arthur Russell.
The concert is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for seating. The event is weather-dependent with no scheduled rain date.
The Friends of the Waterfront, a volunteer-run nonprofit organization, sponsors the summer concert series to promote public access to Newport’s waterfront. The series continues Aug. 30 with Irish music and dance group Turas & Rhode to Dublin performing from 4 to 6 p.m.
King Park Gazebo is located at 125 Wellington Ave. More information about the concert series is available at NewportWaterfront.org.
