Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians of Newport County celebrated Stephanie O’Hanley as their 2025 Lady Hibernian of the Year at a cocktail reception July 31 at Hibernian Hall.

O’Hanley was recognized for 25 years of service and leadership to the LAOH during the evening event that brought together fellow members of the LAOH and Ancient Order of Hibernians, along with community members.

Carolyn Booth served as master of ceremonies for the reception, which began with a blessing from LAOH Chaplain Cathy Coyne. Guests enjoyed appetizers and chowder provided by McGrath Clambakes.

LAOH President Kathryn Brady and AOH Vice President Brian Doyle offered recognition of O’Hanley’s contributions to the organization. The AOH singers performed “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” for attendees.

City Councilor David Carlin presented O’Hanley with a proclamation declaring Aug. 1, 2025, as Stephanie O’Hanley Day in recognition of her service.

As part of the honor, O’Hanley received a custom-made silver bracelet featuring the St. Brigid cross, joining 13 previous recipients of the Lady Hibernian of the Year award. LAOH members surprised O’Hanley by performing a personalized version of “My Favorite Things,” written by Kiki Finn.

The evening concluded with remarks from O’Hanley’s cousin, Katie Genaske, who highlighted O’Hanley’s dedication to family, friends and the LAOH mission of “friendship, unity and Christian charity.”
