Good Morning, Newport! Today is Tuesday, June 17, the 168th day of 2025. There are 197 days left in the year.

🚨 You need to know

Providence is among the riskiest cities in the United States for drivers, according to the 2025 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report. Drivers here are nearly 80% more likely to have a collision compared to the national average.

Allstate’s annual study examines auto insurance claims data from 200 of the largest U.S. cities. For the second year in a row, Providence is in the top 10 most collision-prone metro areas, ranking at #192 of 200 on the list.

“The best way to stay safe on the road is simple: wear your seatbelt, pay attention, and don’t speed,” says Sandee Lindorfer, Allstate’s vice president of auto claims. “These basic steps can prevent accidents and don’t cost a thing.”

The report shows Providence drivers average about 6 years between collisions, much less than the national average of 10.5 years.

While Providence moved up three spots from last year’s 12th place, it’s still firmly among the most dangerous driving cities in the U.S.

The Northeast dominates the risky driving list, with 7 of the top 10 cities in the region. Boston retakes the top spot as America’s most collision-prone city, with drivers there 3.5 times more likely to have an accident than the national average.

On the other hand, Brownsville, Texas, is once again recognized as the safest driving city in America. Drivers are about 26% less likely than the average person to have a collision.
