Newport Public Schools is offering the community the opportunity to take home some free items from the former Rogers High School.

On June 30, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., they’re hosting a “tag and take” event, where residents can browse and claim items such as used desks, chairs, whiteboards, bulletin boards, and file cabinets.

As teachers and staff relocate their materials to the new building, this event provides an opportunity to repurpose items that have served students well over the years. It’s first-come, first-served, so if you’re interested, it’s a good idea to show up early for the best selection.

The district is also preparing for the August 22 ribbon cutting for the new Rogers High School, with inspections currently underway.

“We’re on track so far. We have all the inspections, reviews, painters, last minute details are going on and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that all our inspections pass,” Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain told What’sUpNewp during our monthly one-on-one conversation on May 28.

The old Rogers High School will be demolished in the fall, with the process expected to be completed by December 2025.
