Newport City Hall

Newport City Council’s upcoming meeting on May 14, 2025, is packed with important items. The agenda covers liquor licenses, budget changes, and various community events.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame is seeking approval for three daily liquor licenses for its summer events, including the Hall of Fame Open and Induction Weekend.

A public hearing on the FY2026 and FY2027 budget is scheduled, with proposed changes to the General Fund, Enterprise Funds, and Bond allocations up for discussion. The council will also review ordinances for revenue appropriation and personnel matters.

The Pyramid Club faces a show cause hearing for allegedly operating without a valid liquor license. Meanwhile, Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant wants to transfer its license to a new entity, and Chomp Kitchen and Drinks is looking to add outdoor seating.

Several special events are on the docket for approval, including the Newport skatepark grand opening and newportFILM Outdoors screenings.

The council will also tackle appointments to boards and commissions, contract awards for city projects, and proposed ordinance amendments.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
