The 40th Annual Aquidneck Island National Police Parade brought hundreds of people to Middletown and Newport today (May 4). The event honored law enforcement officers and their service to the community.

While the parade route saw fewer spectators early on, crowds grew as it approached its final destination in Washington Square. 90-year-old Robert Kenahan, the oldest living retired Rhode Island State Police officer, led the procession as grand marshal.

Kenahan also had an impressive 35-year tenure as security director for the International Tennis Hall of Fame Championships under former CEO Mark Stenning.

This year’s parade paid special tribute to three New England police officers who died in the line of duty in 2024.
