Portsmouth High School’s track and field teams came out on top in a tri-meet against Middletown and Tiverton on Monday (April 28).

The boys’ team dominated, beating Middletown 147-5 and Tiverton 127-33. The girls also had a strong showing, winning against Middletown 99-27 and Tiverton 83-27.

Tiverton didn’t go home empty-handed, though. Their boys’ team beat Middletown 103-29, and the girls won 57-45 against Middletown.

Some standout performances from Portsmouth included Aiden Chen clearing 6 feet in the high jump and Tristan Thomas reaching 12 feet in the pole vault, both securing first place in their events.

On the girls’ side, Emily DeConto from Portsmouth won the 300-meter hurdles in 50.7 seconds. Her teammate Allie Kaull had an impressive day, winning both the 800-meter (2:33.4) and 1,500-meter (4:58.6) races.

Tiverton’s Colin Messenger showed his speed in the boys’ 400-meter dash, winning with a time of 53.7 seconds.

The 200-meter dash saw Tiverton’s Isabella Petri, Norah Winslow, and Ally Kilborn each winning their respective heats with times of 28.5, 29.8, and 31.1 seconds.

Middletown’s Kate Cruikshank proved her skill in the 180-meter hurdles, taking first place with a time of 16.7 seconds.

The competition took place at Portsmouth High School’s track, giving the victorious Portsmouth teams a home-field advantage.
