Today (April 15), the Heritage Hotel Group announced that it has completed its acquisition of The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection.

The transaction, which was announced earlier this year, transfers ownership of Newport’s historic 33-room luxury hotel while maintaining its operations under the Auberge Resorts Collection management.

“We are delighted to finalize this acquisition and officially welcome The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection into The Heritage Hotel Group family,” said Michael Anderson, spokesperson for The Heritage Hotel Group. “This storied property embodies Newport’s rich heritage and luxury hospitality tradition that will continue to thrive under our stewardship.”

Built in the Colonial Revival style by Alfred Gwynn Vanderbilt in memory of his father, the property was donated to the City of Newport in 1910. It served the community for decades before eventually being converted into a hotel in 1995. The property underwent a comprehensive redesign by Dallas-based SWOON in 2021, which artfully blended Gilded Age elements with contemporary luxury.

Under the new ownership, Heritage Hotel Group says that guests can expect the same exceptional experiences that have made The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection a premier destination in New England.

The property will maintain its distinctive offerings, including its acclaimed dining venues, popular rooftop bar overlooking Newport Harbor, full-service spa, and curated local activities.

Heritage Hotel Group says that all existing reservations, staff, services, and guest programs will continue uninterrupted.

The property will remain under Auberge Resorts Collection management.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
