Luxury Newport hotel, Gardiner House, has tapped local hospitality veteran Stephanie Nelson as its new Director of Sales.

Nelson, who’s called Newport home for years, brings over 10 years of industry experience and deep local knowledge to the role.

“I am beyond thrilled to join the incredible team at Gardiner House to affirm the hotel’s position within the colorful fabric of Newport and further establish the property as a leader in the luxury hospitality space,” Nelson said. “I look forward to introducing exciting and fresh programming that underscores what makes Gardiner House so special to our exacting guests.”

Nelson’s hospitality journey started behind the bar and led her through various roles, including general manager. She’s worked at top Rhode Island spots like Ocean House Management Collection and most recently as Senior Sales Manager at Castle Hill Inn.

The 21-room Gardiner House, co-owned by Newport locals Howard Cushing and Wirt Blaffer, stands out for its residential-style design that nods to Newport’s rich artistic past. Guests can enjoy the Studio Bar and coastal Mediterranean restaurant Flora, helmed by Chef Miguel Somoza.

Much of the hotel’s design draws inspiration from Cushing’s great-grandfather, American artist Howard Gardiner Cushing, and his nearby family home, The Ledges, built in 1867.

Newport City Council Chair/Mayor Charlie Holder is the Director of Operations for the Gardiner House.
