A traffic stop in Tiverton has led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Tiverton man on multiple weapons charges.
David Souza was pulled over on Feb. 21 when Sgt. Jason Kobelecki spotted him driving without a seatbelt on Main Road near Chace Avenue.
According to Tiverton Police Department, a quick database check revealed Souza’s driving troubles – his Massachusetts license was revoked, and his Rhode Island driving privileges were suspended.
During a search of Souza’s 2008 Ford Expedition, police found more than just traffic violations. Kobelecki discovered a set of black metal knuckles in the center console and a loaded Glock 43x 9mm handgun hidden in the back of the front passenger seat.
The gun, loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammo, turned out to be stolen from Massachusetts. Investigators also learned that Souza doesn’t have a license to carry a concealed weapon in Rhode Island or any other state.
Souza now faces charges of carrying a pistol without a license, possessing a stolen firearm, and having prohibited weapons.
He was arraigned by a bail commissioner at the Tiverton Police Headquarters that same evening. His next court date is set for Feb. 27 at the Second District Court.
