A tenant’s fast action with a fire extinguisher helped stop a fire from spreading at 32 Main Rd. in Tiverton on Tuesday evening.

Tiverton firefighters arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m. to find that a quick-thinking tenant had already used a fire extinguisher to control the flames.

The fire department praised the tenant’s actions in a Facebook post today, saying, “This shows why it’s so important to have working fire extinguishers and know how to use them. Great job to the tenant for acting so quickly!”

Because of the building’s age and structure, firefighters thoroughly checked the upper floors to make sure the fire hadn’t spread.

As a safety measure, Fall River provided mutual aid at the scene, while other units covered the fire stations.

Emergency Medical Services checked one person at the scene for minor injuries.

The fire department shared this information on social media at 4:03 p.m. Wednesday.
