The Preservation Society of Newport County is implementing a new timed ticketing system at The Breakers mansion to address overcrowding concerns and enhance visitor experience at the popular historic site.
Starting Monday, February 24, visitors to The Breakers must select a specific date and time for their visit, with entry slots available every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The new system aims to manage crowd flow and ensure optimal viewing conditions for all guests.
“Because of the overwhelming popularity of The Breakers, we are implementing a timed ticketing policy for that property,” the Preservation Society announces. “This will mitigate overcrowding and ensure all visitors have the best experience.”
Each half-hour time slot will have a limited number of tickets available, and slots may sell out. Visitors are required to arrive at their designated entry time, with the house and grounds closing at 5 p.m. daily.
The new policy includes several exemptions. Preservation Society members and Access Pass holders will maintain their privilege of visiting without reservations whenever The Breakers is open. Additionally, non-timed tickets purchased before February 24, including Duo and Trio passes, will continue to be honored.
The timed entry requirement applies exclusively to The Breakers. Other Newport Mansions properties maintaining their regular admission procedures include Marble House, The Elms, Rosecliff, Chateau-sur-Mer, Kingscote, Isaac Bell House, and Green Animals Topiary Garden.
In her weekly email to supporters of The Preservation Society, Trudy Coxe, CEO of The Preservation Society, emphasizes that the changes are designed to enhance the visitor experience at the historic house museum. “The goal is to avoid overcrowding in this very popular historic house museum,” she states in an email to supporters.
In a separate announcement, the Preservation Society confirms that Newport County residents can still enjoy free admission to The Breakers, Marble House, and The Elms during Newport County Days on March 8-9. During this special event, county residents are exempt from the timed ticket requirement at The Breakers and need only present their ID at the door.
