Anne C. Elbery

Anne C. Elbery, of Scituate, MA passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, in Newport, RI with her family by her side.

Anne was born in Tarrytown, NY to John J. and Anne (Brooks) Deely on June 19, 1939. She attended St. Theresa’s Elementary School, and high school at Our Lady of Victory Academy, graduating as valedictorian. She went on to earn a degree in Education from Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY. Anne worked as a teacher in San Diego, CA for several years before settling in Scituate, MA to raise her family.

Anne was an active person who enjoyed spending time walking around her seaside town, playing tennis with friends and cheering on her children and grandchildren’s sport activities. Anne’s second career was spent as a wonderful “nanny” for several local families, delighting in nurturing some wonderful young people. After she retired, she worked for many years for Visiting Angels, bringing joy and happiness to area seniors.

Most especially, Anne loved spending time with friends and family with a glass of chardonnay in her hand, a beautiful smile on her face, and kind words for all. She will be missed for her classic fashion sense and infectious laugh.

Anne is survived by her three children; William J. and his wife Madeline (Smith) of Pelham, NY; son Mark of Marshfield, MA; and daughter Lynn E. Cavanagh of Portsmouth, RI; Her brother John of Palm Springs, CA; and her sister Janet and partner Lillian of Cedar Knolls, NJ. She leaves behind five adoring grandchildren; Grace, Jack and Claire Cavanagh of Portsmouth, RI; Emily (Smith) Simmons and her husband, Jon of Manhattan, NY; Eric Elbery of Pelham, NY. and one great-granddaughter, Lily Simmons.

The family is so very grateful for the love, care, concern, and support provided to Anne by all of the staff at St. Clare’s and Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice.
