A tragic car accident on Lake Road in Tiverton has claimed the life of a local woman. Jennifer M. Sylvia, 52, died after her 2014 Subaru Impreza crashed into a tree and caught fire Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 9:53 p.m. near 840 Lake Rd. When emergency services arrived, they found Sylvia’s car engulfed in flames. Firefighters managed to pull her from the burning vehicle, but despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Tiverton Police Captain Michael Miguel, who serves as the department’s public information officer, says speed likely played a role in the crash.

The accident forced authorities to close Lake Road in both directions for about three hours as investigators examined the scene. Tiverton’s police and fire departments received assistance from the Little Compton Fire Department during the response.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Tiverton Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team working to determine the full circumstances of the crash.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to get in touch with Detective Nicole Beauvais or Officer Joseph Barek at the Tiverton Police Department.
