The Newport String Project is continuing its Newport County Concert Series with performances by the Newport String Quartet on February 8 and 9.

The resident ensemble will play works by Purcell, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Jacquet de la Guerre, O’Carolan, and Tabakova.

The first concert is at 3 p.m. on February 8 at the Jamestown Arts Center in Jamestown, Rhode Island. The second is at 3 p.m. on February 9 at Trinity Church’s Honyman Hall in Newport, Rhode Island.

The program starts with pieces by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Henry Purcell, and Turlough O’Carolan. The quartet will then perform Beethoven’s String Quartet in C minor, op. 18 no. 4 and Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 1. They’ll also play Dobrinka Tabakova’s “The Smile of the Flamboyant Wings.”

The Newport String Quartet includes Ealaín McMullin and Kenneth Trotter on violin, Florrie Marshall on viola, and Chelsea Bernstein on cello.
