The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is urging consumers to discard any SunFed Produce whole fresh American cucumbers sold in bulk cardboard containers, white boxes, or black plastic crates. The recall, announced by SunFed Produce, comes over concerns about potential Salmonella contamination.
The affected cucumbers were sold between October 12 and November 26, 2024, and bear the “SunFed” label, or are packaged in generic white boxes or black plastic crates with the grower’s name “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.”
The recall follows reports of Salmonella illnesses linked to the consumption of these cucumbers between October 12 and November 15, 2024, as notified to SunFed by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Salmonella infection can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Salmonellosis symptoms typically begin within 6 hours to 6 days after infection and last 4 to 7 days.
Consumers who have purchased these cucumbers should discard them immediately and avoid consumption. SunFed is notifying its direct buyers about the recall. No other SunFed products or farms are involved in this recall.
