Newport City Hall

Newport is now accepting applications for three part-time legal positions: City Solicitor, Municipal Court Judge, and Probate Judge.

The newly elected Newport City Council announced Thursday that it’s looking for qualified Newport residents to fill these roles. The positions will run from Dec. 1, 2024, to Nov. 30, 2026.

If you’re interested, you need to submit your application by Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. Send your letter of interest and resume to the Council-elect through the City Clerk’s Office at 43 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840.

This search for new legal talent comes as the recently elected City Council gets ready to take office. Choosing who will fill these key legal positions is one of the first big decisions the new council will make.

These roles are essential for Newport’s legal system to run smoothly. The City Solicitor is the main legal advisor for the city government. The Municipal Court Judge handles local ordinance violations and minor criminal cases. The Probate Judge takes care of matters related to wills, estates, and guardianships.

If you’re a Newport resident with a legal background and relevant experience, the city encourages you to apply for these positions.
