Newport Hospital has awarded $185,000 to 26 local organizations through its Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund, continuing its commitment to youth wellness across Aquidneck Island.
The “Powered by Prince” grants, ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, will help support and expand a broad mix of programs serving children and teens in Newport County, from athletics and outdoor recreation to enrichment and skill-building opportunities.
“Through our Prince Fund, we’re able to support programs that open doors for young people and encourage lifelong wellness,” said Dr. Tenny Thomas, president and chief medical officer of Newport Hospital. “These grants are about more than activities, they’re about access, opportunity, and helping children on a path to a healthy future. We are honored to administer this fund and proud to have so many dedicated partners in our community working toward this shared goal.”
The fund was established in 2010 when Elizabeth Prince of Newport and her children — Diana Oehrli, Guillaume de Ramel and Regis de Ramel — donated $3 million to the hospital to fund healthy activities for underserved children. With this year’s grants, the fund has awarded more than $1.6 million since its inception.
Recipients of the 2026 grants are Aquidneck Community Table, Aquidneck Pediatrics, Bike Newport, Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport County, Butler Basketball Club, FabNewport Inc., Gnome Surf, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Looking Upwards Inc., Lucy’s Hearth, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Newport Boxfit, Newport Contemporary Ballet, the Newport County YMCA, the Newport Gulls, Newport Sings, the Newport Tree Conservancy, the Norman Bird Sanctuary, the PHS Sailing Team, Revka Hovermale/Revka Dance, Sail Newport, Sail to Prevail, Special Olympics Rhode Island, the Stable Strides Foundation, the Star Kids Scholarship Program and the Town of Portsmouth Department of Parks and Recreation.
