Following several weeks of delays caused by the transition to a new third-party billing provider, Newport Water Division customers began receiving September bills in the mail this week.

While September bills do not reflect changes made to the Base Sewer Use charge, October bills are expected to follow shortly and will include credits to all customers impacted by the recently repealed fee.

More from the City of Newport on this;

“In summary customers are advised:

  • SEPTEMBER BILLS DO NOT REFLECT BASE SEWER USE CHARGE REPEAL
  • CREDITS ARE BEING APPLIED TO OCTOBER BILLS
  • SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER BILLS AREN’T DUE UNTIL NOVEMBER 13TH

SEPTEMBER BILLS DO NOT REFLECT BASE SEWER USE CHARGE REPEAL

Because of a processing delay, Newport residents are advised that September bills DO NOT reflect credits being applied for the Base Sewer Use charge. Please note that City Councilors voted to repeal that charge on Sept. 25th, and credits will be reflected in October statements.

CREDITS ARE BEING APPLIED TO OCTOBER BILLS

Credits for customers who were subject to the Base Sewer Use charge will be applied as part of their forthcoming OCTOBER BILLS and INTEREST IS BEING TEMPORARILY WAIVED for all late payments. Impacted customers will see two months of credits (for their August and September bills) in their October statements.

SEPTEMBER + OCTOBER BILLS DUE NOVEMBER 13TH

Please don’t rush to pay your bill, as the due date for both September and October bills has been set to November 13th.  If you’re enrolled in our ACH program, you can expect to see payments drawn between November 14th and 18th.

October’s monthly bill will also include a How-to Guide and Bill Explanation insert. Account holders are asked to read their bills carefully and to please contact us at (401) 845-5604 with any questions. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding over the last few months. For more information, visit www.CityofNewport.com/Utilities .”
