Bertrand and Johnson plan to discuss the Newport Historical Society’s campaign to establish a center for Black history. The proposed center aims to explore Newport’s deep connections to the transatlantic slave trade and the experiences of enslaved people.

“Arts Around the Fire” serves as a platform for artists, writers, performers, and audiences to engage with colleagues about issues affecting the cultural community. The event also provides an opportunity to learn about new ideas and artistic endeavors.

The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County, which organizes the event, is a coalition of individuals and non-profits committed to advancing arts and culture in Newport County.
