The Rhode Island Women’s Choreography Project’s annual performance series will be back in Providence this August, and it will feature new work from six local choreographers.

Here & Now will take place at the Ballet RI Black Box Theater on August 24 at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on August 25 at 2:30 pm. The show will feature pieces by Margot Akrin, Dara Capley, Anna G. Delgado Cruz, Morgan Dubay, Mira Göksel, and Minami Kikuchi.

The Rhode Island Women’s Choreography Project was founded in 2018, and its mission is to “nurture, elevate, and empower artists whose voices are not traditionally heard.” The project is run by Executive Director Kristy DuBois, and features a core mission of empowering women and nonbinary artists in ballet and contemporary dance choreography.

The show will provide an opportunity for the public to see new work from female and nonbinary choreographers, and it is also a chance to raise awareness about the lack of gender diversity in ballet and the impact that this can have on the artistic field.
