Newport Pell Bridge

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) has announced some lane closure on the Newport Claiborne Pell Bridge for the week of September 1 – 7, 2024.

The westbound right lane will be closed from 7 am to 2:30 pm, September 3 through 6.

The eastbound right lane will be closed from 9 am. to 3 pm, September 3 through 6.

The eastbound left lane will be closed from 9 am to 3 pm, September 3 through 5.

No lane closures are currently planned for the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge, the Route 138 Connector, the Mount Hope Bridge, or the Sakonnet River Bridge.

RITBA says that the schedule is subject to change, and travelers are urged to check real-time traffic updates on the RITBA website or follow the RIEZPASS social media page for the most current information.

Regarding the Newport Pell Bridge Approaches—Phase II, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation states in its travel advisory list for August 31—September 6 that “Mobile operations sitewide will occur with minimal impact to travel to wrap up outstanding electrical and signage installation tasks.”
