Gerald Dickens, great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens, is bringing his one-man adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” to The Historic Park Theatre & Event Center in Cranston, Rhode Island on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

The performance starts the holiday season with Dickens’ spirited rendition of his ancestor’s classic tale. Tickets go on sale Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. and range from $29 to $59.

Dickens has captivated audiences in Nashua since 2009 with his unique interpretation of the beloved holiday story. His adaptation brings 26 characters to life through distinct mannerisms and voices.

“During his performance, Gerald leaps, sobs, and laughs, captivating you as he depicts 26 characters from Dickens’ timeless tale,” said a spokesperson for the theater.

The Historic Park Theatre & Event Center, located just 5 miles from downtown Providence, celebrates its 100th year of operation in 2024. Recently refurbished, the venue now boasts a fully equipped multi-purpose performing arts center with seating for approximately 1,000 patrons.

The theater has hosted notable performers in the past, including Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Buddy Guy, Ann Wilson, Spyro Gyra, The Beach Boys, and Ani DiFranco. It is also home to the Rhode Island Comedy Hall of Fame.

This performance of “A Christmas Carol” offers audiences a chance to experience the classic story in a fresh and engaging way. Gerald Dickens’ adaptation breathes new life into the familiar characters of Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Tiny Tim.

The one-man show format presents a unique challenge for the performer, requiring Dickens to seamlessly transition between characters and maintain the narrative flow. His ability to portray multiple roles showcases his versatility as an actor and his deep connection to the source material.

Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” has been a holiday staple since its publication in 1843. The story’s themes of redemption, compassion, and the spirit of giving continue to resonate with audiences of all ages.

Gerald Dickens’ adaptation stays true to the heart of the original tale while adding his own theatrical flair. His performance style allows audiences to experience the story in a more intimate and immediate way than traditional stage or film adaptations.

Tickets for the performance can be purchased online at www.theparkri.com or by calling 1-800-657-8774. Given the popularity of both the story and Gerald Dickens’ adaptation, early ticket purchase is recommended.
