The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends reopening Kingston Camp and Camp Hoffman in South Kingstown for swimming because bacteria counts have returned to safe levels. 

RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day. The status of a beach may change as new data become available. The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line (401-222-2751). A list of closed beaches can also be accessed at https://health.ri.gov/beaches/

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends closing the swimming areas at Kingston’s Camp and Camp Hoffman on Larkin Pond in South Kingstown due to high bacteria counts. RIDOH also recommends reopening Governor Notte Park Beach in North Providence for swimming because bacteria counts have returned to safe levels.

  1. Closing Camp Hoffman would be very sad. I believe it is the oldest Girl Scout Camp in the United States. My mother, myself, my daughter, and my grand daughter all enjoyed summer weeks learning to swim, sail, outdoors skills, and making new friends. My granddaughter is currently participating in the planning and management of the program. It would be a great loss for girls and young women if should be closed. Every year there is a group of young women who come from other countries, this year, 13 Girl Guides from the United Kingdom. I sincerely hope they can find an alternative solution
