Florence Adams, 97, of Newport, RI, who was a loving devoted mom to her 3 daughters (Peg, Pam and Pattie) and known as “Mama” to her 4 wonderful grandchildren passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Patricia and son-in- law Russell Campagna on July 26, 2024, surrounded in love by her family and close friends.

Florence was born the 4th child of 6 children (and the last surviving sibling of Vincent, Katerina, Josephine, Marietta, and Helen Salario) born at home on November 12, 1926, in New Brunswick, NJ to Teodora (Calo) Salario & Eugenio Salario (immigrants from Avelino, Frigento, Italy). Raised in the Catholic Faith she became a Filippini Novice at the age of 16. She left the convent to marry at 18 and start a family at the age of 20.

Florence was a woman that was ahead of her time. Her spiritual faith was always at the forefront of everything she did. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading and studying religion, nutrition, exercise, and reading great works of literature. A Milky-Way candy bar (which brought back her childhood memories of her parent’s candy store on Lee Ave. in New Brunswick, NJ), pasta, and an occasional martini were a few of her favorite things. She enjoyed teaching herself piano and having intellectual controversial conversations. She reentered the workforce in 1960 while raising her children and instilled in her daughters the importance of independent thinking and remaining open-minded to new ideas.

Florence is survived by her daughter Patricia Ivy (Chappell) Campagna and her husband Russell Charles Campagna, with whom she resided, in Newport, RI. Their children, Evan Scot Campagna of Bristol, RI, Emily Rose (Campagna) Callanan & Emily’s husband Brendan Michael Callanan & their son (Florence’s first Great Grandson) Henry Michael Callanan of Attleboro, MA. Also, Florence’s daughter Pamela S. Weiss and her husband David L. Weiss of Maricopa, AZ and their daughter Jules S. Weiss of Portland, Oregon. In addition, Florence is also survived by her first grandchild, Jonathan Brad Gulick (son of her late daughter Margaret (Peg) Lauren (Gieber) Gulick of Pennington, NJ who predeceased Florence. Along with so many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved, and they loved their Aunt Flo.

A special “Thank You” to her aids, Francesca and Olivia (nursing students from Salve University), Linda & Pam (neighbors), and Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice.

A private Celebration of Florence’s Life will be held in Newport, RI.

In lieu of flowers, it was Florence’s wish that you please donate to The First Church of Christ, Scientist, 250 Massachusetts Ave, Boston, MA 02115, https://giving.christianscience.com/.
