The Newport Gulls 2024 Season is now underway and a unique partnership with Stop & Shop is sure to hit a home run against hunger. On Wednesday, June 12th fans can gain admission to the historic home stadium of the Newport Gulls in exchange for a donation of a non- perishable food item or personal care item. Baseball lovers of all ages are invited to Cardines Field to witness an action-packed game and to help fight student hunger as all items donated will go directly to the school food pantry at Rogers High School to keep it stocked over the summer months.
Stop & Shop provided a $20,000 Grant to We Share Hope, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization which distributes surplus food from food industry partners to those in need. In conjunction with Stop & Shop, We Share Hope established the a “Jean’s Closet food pantry at Rogers High School. Over 64% of students enrolled in Newport Public Schools are classified as economically disadvantaged by the Rhode
Island Department of Education. This food pantry significantly helps with benefit these students and their families and is part of the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program, which supports nearly 200 schools across the Northeast, to help ensure no student has to go to school hungry.
Newport will take on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at 6:35 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM and fans can begin bringing their items to the stadium to receive their free admission. Students of Rogers High School and the City of Newport School Administration will be on-hand to collect the items and celebrate the occasion, along with representatives of Stop & Shop. “The aim is to try and benefit others with our game nights”, said Newport Gulls Director of Baseball Operations Michael Falcone. He continued to state, “This unique type of fundraiser with Stop & Shop aligns so well with our mission and will be a special occasion at Cardines Field”.
Wednesday, June 12th is sure to be a fun night at the ballpark watching the “Major League Stars of Tomorrow”. There is no limit to the number of items a family can bring in exchange for free tickets.
