The Tomaquag Museum will host a presentation by Silvermoon Mars LaRose on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 pm, at the Tiverton Public Library.
“Exploring the History of the Indigenous Peoples of Southern New England and Their Lands at the Tiverton Public Library” will offer attendees a general overview of tribal histories from precolonial times to the present day. The presentation is sponsored by the Friends of Tiverton Libraries and will be Tiverton’s fourth annual Fitzgerald History Program memorializing longtime library staff member John Fitzgerald.
Speaker Silvermoon Mars LaRose is a member of the Narragansett Tribe and a dedicated preservationist of cultural belongings.
Silvermoon Mars LaRose has served in a variety of public sector roles, including health and human services, education, and the humanities. She has also served on the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts and the Charlestown Conservation Commission.
In 2022, Silvermoon participated in the Rhode Island Foundation’s inaugural Equity Leadership Initiative cohort and now sits on its steering committee.
Silvermoon Mars LaRose, assistant director of the Tomaquag Museum, is devoted to sharing cultural education and the preservation of cultural belongings.
Silvermoon Mars LaRose holds degrees in Sociology and a partially completed Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Western Washington University.
Silvermoon Mars LaRose, a member of the Narragansett Tribe and assistant director of the Tomaquag Museum, has a mission to “educate all of our relations (everyone) on Indigenous cultures of the Dawnland (focus Southern New England) through engagement and shared dialogue to reconcile the past and empower present and future generations.”
