Norman Bird Sanctuary and Newport Live’s hit Summer Outdoor Concert Series is returning to Aquidneck Island, bringing three unique artists to Norman Bird Sanctuary for a summer of live music. 2024 marks the fourth year of a successful collaboration between the two local non-profit organizations.
“We are thrilled to partner with Newport Live again to bring such talented artists to our community,” shared Norman Bird Sanctuary Executive Director, Kaity Ryan. “This is the Sanctuary’s 75th anniversary year and we are excited to continue celebrating the artistic legacy of this special place through diverse arts programming.”
Each show will begin at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. Guests are invited to take advantage of Norman Bird Sanctuary’s scenic Studio Lawn by bringing a picnic and enjoying a pre-concert dinner.
Alisa Amador (July 11, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Returning as an encore to her highly popular 2021 concert at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, Alisa Amador will perform on July 11 for what is anticipated to be a sold-out show. A bilingual singer and songwriter, Alisa made history in 2022 with the first-ever Spanish language song to win NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest. Alisa’s full-length debut, Multitudes, will be released on June 7, featuring appearances from Gaby Moreno, Madison Cunningham, and Quinn Christopherson.
Naledi Masilo (August 9, 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.)
On August 9, South African vocalist, educator, and storyteller, Naledi Masilo, will be joined by her group to present what has been described as a “musical odyssey.” Naledi’s numerous accolades include being selected as part of the premier South African Standard Bank National Youth Band, and winning the top three positions in the International Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition and National Dolo Coker Jazz Competition. Naledi’s debut EP Batho, will be released this summer.
Alexa Rose (August 23, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Alexa Rose joins the Summer Outdoor Concert Series on August 23 for the final concert in the series. NPR describes Rose’s Appalachian influence and voice as “the soul child of Bob Dylan and Dolly Parton.” The title track in her debut album, Medicine For Living, won Merlefest’s Chris Austin Songwriting Contest in 2019, followed shortly after by her acclaimed 2021 album, Headwaters.
“Newport Live is thrilled to be in what is now our 4th annual Summer Outdoor Concert Series at Norman Bird Sanctuary,” said Dick Lynn, Newport Live Executive Director. “We love bringing exciting music to the region, and Norman Bird Sanctuary is a breathtakingly beautiful venue at which to bring these artists.”
