Rhode Island Department of Administration Director Michael DiBiase today announced Lindsay Lang will be the new Director of HealthSource RI, Rhode Island’s health insurance exchange.

“From its inception, Lindsay has been committed to the effective and efficient operation of HealthSource RI as Legal Counsel, Chief of Staff, and now as its Director,” said Director DiBiase in a press release. “Her deep knowledge of and passion for the organization and health care policy make her an ideal candidate to continue HealthSource’s mission to make affordable insurance accessible to all Rhode Islanders.”

Health care has been a primary focus for Lang throughout her career.

A month before the exchange launched in October 2013, she was hired as its Senior Legal Counsel and developed expertise across all functional aspects of the program, including policy, customer service, technical operations, communications, marketing, outreach, and finance.

In April 2016, Lang became the exchange’s Chief of Staff/General Counsel, for which she was tasked with overseeing legal operations and empowering the HSRI team to support its core mission. Lang stepped into the role of Acting Director after the previous Director, Zach Sherman, left in September 2019 to become the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Health Insurance Exchange Authority.

“Over the past six years, I have valued the opportunities I’ve been given to take on increasing responsibility with HealthSource RI,” said Lang in a press release.  “I’m excited to now lead this organization, which has worked diligently since 2013 to increase access to high quality, affordable health coverage in Rhode Island. I look forward to building upon what we have already achieved.”

Before joining HealthSourceRI, Lang served as the Health Policy Director for Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts. Among her responsibilities were leading a stakeholder work group tasked with selecting an Essential Health Benefits plan under the Affordable Care Act and being part of a small inter-agency policy team focused on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Lang holds a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies with a Public Sector concentration from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn., and a law degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. Lang is originally from Wilmot, New Hampshire, and lives in Barrington with her husband and two young children.
