The Waterfront Concert Series at King Park kicks off on Friday, June 21 with a Summer Solstice concert from 5 pm to 7 pm that will feature Aine Minogue, an acclaimed Celtic harpist, vocalist and award-winning recording artist. With 15 albums to her name, she’s performed her Celtic, world, folk and new age music for presidents and prime ministers.

In case of inclement weather, the Summer Solstice concert at King Park scheduled for this evening from 5-7 pm with Celtic harpist Aine Minogue and Slackwater String Band WILL go forward at a rain location – Hibernian Hall, 2 Wellington Ave. Newport.

Aine (pronounced “On-ya”) Minogue has a lilting voice and majestic harp that carries listeners away. The Boston Globe calls her “a balm for our times” and Entertainment Weekly says she’s “a breath of fresh Eire.”

Opening the concert will be Rhode Island’s own roots/folk, Celtic and bluegrass ensemble “Slackwater String Band” with master players Tom Perrotti, Ed McGuirl and Mike Fischman.

Lawn seating, bring a chair or blanket. Seven concerts over the summer are presented free by the Friends of the Waterfront and the City of Newport with a gift from the Isham Family Fund.
