Sheila (Barry) MacKinnon, 95, formerly of Middletown, RI, passed away on January 13, 2019 at Village House Nursing Home in Newport. Sheila was the wife of the late Deacon Joseph W. MacKinnon.
Born and raised in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Helena (O’Sullivan) Barry.
Sheila resided on Freeborn St. in Middletown in the house her husband built. Sheila worked at the Torpedo Station on Goat Island, Elmhurst Academy and McLaughlin Research Corp. Sheila and Joe were original members of St Lucy’s parish where she was an active member and a Hospice volunteer.
Sheila is survived by her daughter Marisheila and the late Robert P. Weidman of Virginia Beach, VA, son Joseph A. MacKinnon and his wife Janella E. MacKinnon of Exeter, RI, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 18, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
