The Friends of mvyradio Board of Directors announced today the appointment of Paul J. Finn (PJ) to the position of Executive Director effective August 1, 2018. PJ has been part of mvyradio at 88.7 on the FM dial and its predecessor station at 92.7 for 18 years, most recently serving as Interim Executive Director.

Finn graduated from The University Of Massachusetts, Amherst with a BA in Communications in 1991.  His radio career began in 1994 at WABN in Abingdon, Virginia, where he served as an afternoon DJ for 6 years.  Finn joined the staff of WMVY, under Program Director Barbara Dacey in the fall of 2000, as mvyradio’s morning DJ and Production Director.  In 2005, he was promoted to afternoon DJ and Program Director, where he oversaw all aspects of WMVY’s on-air content, including the music, the staff, and all on-air initiatives.

“Through the station’s many transitions, including as an early adopter of online streaming to build a worldwide audience, through the 2013 Save WMVY Campaign which raised $600,000 in 60 days to allow the station to convert from a commercial entity to a non-profit organization, Finn has been an integral part of mvyradio’s success,” a press release announcing the appointment states.

The release continues “Finn’s experience and performance as Program Director made him the obvious choice for Interim Executive Director when that position was opened in May 2018. Since then, he has continued his previous responsibilities and taken on overall management of the mvyradio operation. As Interim Director, PJ worked closely with the Board and staff to navigate appointments and onboarding of new staff, an exceptionally busy summer season, a highly successful on-air fundraiser and some important exploratory conversations about mvyradio’s future”.

Now, as mvyradio’s new Executive Director, PJ will be working with a growing, active, and invested Board of Directors, with a highly energized staff, and with listeners worldwide to launch the station into the future.

Chair of the Friends of mvyradio Board of Directors, Kathleen Teehan, in the release states that she believes that “PJ Finn is the right person to lead the station at this point in its history. Our plans for growth, relocation to a new and up to date facility, collaboration with the many other non-profit organizations in our region to highlight the services they provide to our communities, and the wonderful music and promotion of musicians we offer will continue to develop with his oversight and guidance. The Board is confident in his ability to accomplish the mission, vision and goals we have set for mvyradio.”

“I have always believed in WMVY,” says Finn.  “And now I am thrilled to be in a position to collaborate with and inspire an incredible group of people—our staff and our Board—to bring the station to new heights and successes.”
