Former Navy Band Northeast Director Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) Terry Chesson plays Alto Saxophone as a Musician First Class with the Navy’s CINCLANTFLEET Band in 1971. Navy Band Northeast (NBNE) has announced that they will hold their third annual Alumni Concert at St. Michael’s Country Day School in Newport on August 17th at 6 pm.

In addition to its 27-member Active Duty Pops Ensemble, the concert will feature an inaugural “Alumni Big Band,” comprised of 16 former Navy musicians once stationed here in Newport. Led by Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) Terry Chesson and Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Carl Gerhard, the evening promises to be an exciting tribute to Navy Band Northeast’s musical

Led by Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) Terry Chesson and Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Carl Gerhard, NBNE promises the evening will be an exciting tribute to Navy Band Northeast’s musical heritage and a remarkable glimpse into the band’s history.  Participants include a World War II Veteran Bandmaster, and modern acclaimed jazz musicians, all of whom launched their storied careers right here in Newport as Navy Musicians.

Under its Director, Lieutenant Joel Borrelli-Boudreau, the Active Duty NBNE Pops Ensemble will bookend the big band performance with traditional works for concert band, popular medleys, and patriotic tributes.

The concert is free and open to the public. Organizers encourage attendees to bring a lawn chair or blanket, the event happens rain or shine.

St. Michael’s Country Day School is located at 180 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport RI.
