Alverna Pauline Olson 94, died Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport.

Born on May 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma Tricka.

She grew up in Queen’s Village, New York and moved to East Northport, New York after her marriage to the late John Olson.

She worked for the Northport, New York School District for over 20 years. She was very active in planning and conducting numerous school activities, and in her years in Scouts. She enjoyed dress making and a variety of crafts though out her life especially ceramics, needlework and painting. She loved to read and was an enthusiastic gardener. After moving to Newport, she became a dedicated volunteer for the Edward King House and made many friends there.

She is survived by her son, Donald Olson and his wife Susan of Portsmouth, RI.

She was predeceased by her brothers Charles and Eugene Tricka.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held on January 19th, 2017 at Jesus Saviour Church in Newport.
