The latest news and information from schools in the Newport Public School district are now available on smartphones and mobile devices with a new mobile app launched during Tuesday night’s school committee meeting. Newport Public Schools is partnering with Blackboard, an educational technology company, to expand its communications outreach with a mobile app that is now available in the online Apple App and Google Play app stores for free.

The mobile app will offer a constantly updated feed of district news and events with photos and links to the district website. The app can also be customized by the user by selecting the schools they are most interested in for news and updates. Users can also choose to receive push notifications to get breaking news and updates about school closures, calendar changes, or even sports updates.

“We are very excited about this new initiative.” said Colleen Burns Jermain, Superintendent of Newport Public Schools. “With our new mobile app, parents and community members can stay connected with our local schools and with activities our students are engaged in every day.”

In addition to the Activity Stream of school and district news, calendars and notifications, there is also a district directory of school administrators, a link to the staff directory on the district website, a tip line feature, allowing users to send messages directly to building administrators, a direct link to the Follett ASPEN Student Information System, a link to the breakfast and lunch menus, My School Bucks, the RI Broadcasters Association Closing text service, e-flyers, news, media and resource folders.

Parents and the public are encouraged to download this free app to their smartphones at:

Apple App Store:
