Due to Wednesday’s wet weather, the screening of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade at Ballard Park is reschedule for Thursday, August 11th.  The short Chateau de sable by Quentin Deleau will be shown prior to the movie and is provided by Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival.  The screenings is free and open to the public.

The series, which is co-sponsored by the Rhode Island State Senate, Rhode Island House of Representatives and Ken & Tia Scigulinsky features four screenings this month.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade stars Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.  The film is rated PG-13 and runs for 127 minutes.  It features Indiana Jones (Ford) embarking on a search for the Holy Grail which caused the disappearance of his father (Connery).  The artifact is much harder to find than they expected, and its powers are too much for those impure in heart.

Ballard Park’s quarry meadow will open at 6:30 pm for blankets and picnicking.  Movies begin at dusk (typically between 8:00 and 8:15 pm). Like regular movie theaters, smoking is prohibited.  MOVIES ON THE ROCKS is supported by BR Arnold Construction, Cox, Howard Johnson Inn, Kiki Finn, National Grid, Rhode Island International Film Festival, Rhode Island Office of Film & TV and St. Clare Newport.

Ballard Park is a nature preserve located directly across from Rogers High School on Wickham Road in Newport. Those interested in attending should wear sturdy shoes as there is rugged terrain and bring a flashlight to use when exiting the park. Parking is available along Hazard Road.  Allow about fifteen minutes to park and make your way into the quarry meadow as the site for the movies is a considerable distance from the road.  Trails are steep and uneven in places especially when accessing the park from Wickham Road.
